It all started when engineer Fred Luddy wrote code that automated a tedious task for his coworker, Phyllis. She cried tears of joy. That moment inspired Fred to build a company that could do that for everyone—freeing people from busywork so they could focus on meaningful work. Today, ServiceNow is the AI control tower for business reinvention. Our ServiceNow AI platform brings together any AI, any data, and any workflow— helping 85% of the Fortune 500® work smarter, faster, and better. We're building an AI-native culture where technology and talent are unstoppable together. And we're just getting started.
Join us to put AI to work for people.
ServiceNow's Advanced Technology Group is a customer-focused innovation team building intelligent software and AI-powered work experiences. We combine AI workers, workflows, chat, knowledge, and integrations to make complex enterprise operations accessible to everyday users.
Our researchers, applied scientists, engineers, designers, and product managers have a dual mission: build end-to-end products for customers while experimenting with and de-risking the technologies that will shape how people work.
The role
We are looking for an experienced, backend-leaning full-stack engineer who can take a problem and solve it across the product and system. You will build customer-facing capabilities spanning the browser, APIs, data models, realtime infrastructure, asynchronous jobs, and external integrations.
You will have the autonomy to shape problems, make sound architectural decisions, and own work from idea through production. We value engineers who are self-directed, pragmatic, curious, and uncompromising about security and software quality.
What you will do
Build AI-powered product capabilities across React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and shared contracts.
Own features from product definition and system design through implementation, testing, deployment, and operation.
Design secure APIs, authorization rules, data models, and backward-compatible migrations.
Build reliable asynchronous and realtime workflows using queues, pub/sub, jobs, schedules, and WebSockets.
Develop enterprise integrations involving OAuth, webhooks, rate limits, external APIs, and vendor failures.
Protect tenant boundaries and validate untrusted input across HTTP, sockets, queues, and AI tool execution.
Build, deploy, and operate services running on AWS and Kubernetes.
Diagnose production behavior using logs, traces, metrics, databases, and message brokers.
Work closely with product, frontend, AI, and platform engineers while independently driving execution.
Help evolve our engineering practices as AI changes how software is designed and built.
To be successful in this role you have:
Strong TypeScript fundamentals and production experience with React and Node.js.
A track record of driving complex, customer-facing features end to end with visible product impact.
Strong SQL and relational data-modeling skills, including transactions, indexes, and migrations.
Experience with asynchronous or distributed systems: queues, pub/sub, WebSockets, retries, and idempotency.
Sound API, schema, and backward-compatibility judgment.
Strong security instincts for multi-tenant authorization, credentials, uploads, and external input.
Experience with automated unit, integration, API, and end-to-end testing.
Product judgment and comfort operating without heavy specification or process overhead.
High ownership: you stay accountable for reliability and customer outcomes after the code ships.
AI Development Lifecycle
Hands-on ADLC experience is mandatory. You must have shipped software using AI across discovery, design, implementation, testing, review, documentation, and production debugging—not only used a coding assistant occasionally.
You know how to validate AI-generated work, define evaluations and regression criteria, manage context, and account for nondeterminism, hallucinations, latency, cost, privacy, and security. You retain human ownership of the architecture, code, and customer outcome.
You can design reliable AI execution paths involving prompts, structured outputs, agents, tools, approvals, schemas, authorization, retries, observability, and failure recovery. Model output is treated as untrusted input, and consequential actions require explicit authorization.
Our technology
TypeScript, React, Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, Sequelize, Redis, RabbitMQ, Socket.IO, Zod, Nx, Vite, Vitest, Playwright, Sentry, AWS, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, Cursor, and Linear.
Experience with every technology is not required. Python, FastAPI, AI agent runtimes, MCP, enterprise integrations, and direct AWS infrastructure experience are valuable but not mandatory.
Work Personas
We approach our distributed world of work with flexibility and trust. Work personas (flexible, remote, or required in office) are categories that are assigned to ServiceNow employees depending on the nature of their work and their assigned work location. Learn more here. To determine eligibility for a work persona, ServiceNow may confirm the distance between your primary residence and the closest ServiceNow office using a third-party service.
