The Global Lending Foundations team, within our Global Lending BU, is building the platform that fundamentally changes how we design, build, and roll out lending decisions across new geographies.
Our mission is to create the tools and evolve the architecture that make it dramatically easier to launch lending products in new countries, with high business impact and direct exposure to Nu’s global expansion.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a senior technical leader in this platform layer: defining the long-horizon technical direction for how Lending platforms scale across countries, products, and partners, and shaping how every future lending product is built across Brazil, the US, Mexico, Colombia and future markets.
You will operate at platform scale — building shared infrastructure that other teams depend on for years — while working in a highly engaged, multi-level engineering group and partnering closely with product and business leaders.
You'll be responsible for
We have a lot to offer, including professional growth and a supportive, engaging work environment. Like:
High Impact and Visibility: This is a high-exposure team with direct business impact on our global lending expansion. You'll interact with a wide range of stakeholders, from leadership to other business units, as you orchestrate your work across the BU.
Architectural Ownership: You'll help define the long-horizon technical direction of the entire Lending Platforms layer, making decisions that will outlast the cycle and shape how every Lending product is built across BR, US, MX, CO, and future countries.
Innovate with Us: You'll be part of a cross-impact team creating a fundamentally different way to build and roll out decisions within Lending, working alongside a heterogeneous group of engineers where your voice as a Staff engineer will set the technical bar.
Unmatched Support: You'll work with a highly engaged and supportive engineering team that will help you every step of the way while having fun in the process. Plus, you'll have experienced engineering leadership in the business unit to help you navigate the organization and support your growth.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for an Engineer who has been in the role for at least 6 months and is ready to take on platform-scale challenges with broad architectural reach. This role is perfect for you if you:
Are comfortable reasoning about data at scale: the events and state this platform produces feed decisioning and analytics across the BU, so you think about schema evolution, data contracts, model & policies pipelines, and observability of what you build as first-class architectural concerns.
Own the data side of platform architecture: schema evolution, data contracts, and how the events and state you design get consumed downstream for decisioning and analytics across the BU.
Bring analytics rigor into architectural decisions: data quality, lineage, and observability aren't someone else's job, they're part of how you design the platform from day one.
Have deep experience with Nubank's tech stack, including Datomic, Kafka, Scala and Clojure, and are comfortable making it bend to the problem rather than the other way around.
Have a track record of driving alignment on hard architectural decisions across multiple teams and stakeholders, and of mentoring senior engineers toward Staff.
Are ready to be a key technical leader on platforms teams where the main customers are other engineering, data and product teams, and where your decisions directly shape what they can ship and how fast.
This role can be based in one of the following hubs:
São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Campinas, or Belo Horizonte – Brazil
(We hire for one location; final base will be defined during the process.)
Hybrid 2–3 times/week: Our hybrid work model brings us to the office at least twice a week, on strategic days designed to maximize team connection and collaboration. For more details, visit https://building.nubank.com/nu-hybrid-work-model/
